The image of the high street banks has taken a battering since the Global Financial Crisis and this has lead to the quick rise of several very interesting challenger banks such as Metro, Monzo, Atom and Starling in the UK and N26 in Germany. There is an argument that technology has dehumanised banking with the introduction of call centres and websites and this image has not been helped by the on-going scandals of the bailouts, PPI, overdraft charges and various court cases. It is fair to say most of them could do with a makeover. A friend of mine Nicolas Tallon, a strategy and innovation consultant, has written some interesting articles on the ideas of social athropology and how this could be a key differentiator, when designing the banking products and services of the future. A kind of #TeamHuman banking if you like, which sounds quite appealing!
